(Only) On Tuesday mornings, I slightly welcome the alarm clock, knowing I am going to get to enjoy the company of great people here in the Fox Valley for THRIVE coffee at 7:30. This week we were at Apple City Family Restaurant, located at 664 West Ridgeview Drive in Appleton (on the east side of Hwy 47 or Richmond Street). Note: The establishment is easy to miss, as it is located on the lower level of an office complex, which is slightly different from your typical family style restaurant location, such as Mary’s Family Restaurant.
We walked in a bit before 7:30 and were greeted by a friendly lady who was very energetic and polite. I was jealous of her energy, as I was coffee-less at this point. She directed us to a group of tables where we would easily have enough room for any THRIVE coffee attendees. She offered us coffee, handed out menus and was back with coffee in a matter of minutes. As I was working on cup number one, friendly faces started to show up and new faces started to introduce themselves.
The menu included your typical breakfast food, such as omelets, skillets, pancakes and other breakfast favorites. I decided on the sourdough egg and cheese sandwich, which consisted of scrambled eggs and melted cheddar cheese on grilled sour dough toast with a side of fruit. While waiting for the food to arrive, the energetic waitress was very attentive to our group, refilling coffees and making sure everyone had a menu and a full drink. The food came out not too long after we order and it was just the right amount of food for breakfast. The toasted bread was warm and the eggs were perfectly coated with warm melted cheese. The fruit was fresh, but there wasn’t an over abundance of it. Overall, the breakfast experience was pleasant and the food was good.
