B.J. Clancy’s Grill & Bar [Reuben Sandwich]
You know those restaurants you drive past hundreds of times yet never really think much about stopping in and checking out? Well, B.J. Clancy’s Grill & Bar has always been that type of place for me. I’ve driven past it many times in the past and on a whim today decided to check it out for an early lunch. It was either B.J. Clancy’s or Panera Bread, and Panera was across town so laziness won out. You want to know what’s funny about that? We went to Vande Walle’s and picked up some sugar free chocolates for desert…
Something New Today
Not only was our early lunch venue new today, I stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered something I had never tried before: a Reuben sandwich. We’ve been trying to eat a little healthier lately but you gotta’ fall off the wagon every now and then to keep life interesting. Oh, and I had some cottage cheese with pineapple as a side.
B.J. Clancy’s Reuben is pretty straightforward. It’s a hot sandwich consisting of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut sandwiched between two pieces of toasted rye bread. On the side was some mild horseradish sauce and a few pickles. The take away today was that I’m not a big fan of Reuben sandwiches. Oh, I ate it. No danger of that not happening, but the combination of corned beef, rye bread, and sauerkraut is just a bit too much on the savory side for me. I was left craving something sweet to balance out my sodium-drenched taste buds (hence Vande Walle’s). Add a bit of horseradish sauce to the mix and you have a very flavorful sandwich that you’re either going to love or hate. Speaking of, I’ve had horseradish that brought literal tears to my eyes and today’s offering was far on the opposite side of that spectrum. It was quite mild.
The other aspects of our visit were all well received. The atmosphere is clean, interesting, comfortable, and lit nicely. The service was good and the price was right (about $16 for the two of us). In the end, I think the next time I give B.J. Clancy’s a shot it’s going to be for dinner and I’m going to try something I’m a little more familiar with.
