Sangria’s Mexican Grill [Margarita Chicken]
So Wednesday ended up being another long day and it ended at Sangria’s Mexican Grill located at 215 South Memorial Drive, just a bit southwest of downtown Appleton. This place has caught my eye several times because it is a huge Victorian style home, which is a bit different from the norm when it comes to Mexican restaurants. The small parking lot was pretty full when we pulled in at right around 6:30.
Fun & Festive
We walked in and the bar area in front of the entrance was packed. As I glanced around I saw a few Margaritas that looked pretty good, as well as a few other fun looking drinks. The host was very attentive and took us upstairs to be seated. The upstairs part of it kind of made me think of Good Company and how awesome the interior is at that place. Anyways, we were seated and handed a menu filled with all kinds of Mexican specialties. The server came over and playfully introduced himself as none other than the Enrique Iglesias. He was bursting with energy and seemed very happy-go-lucky. He also was very familiar with the menu and offered us Sangria’s as that was the drink special that evening; buy two for the price of one. We declined the booze and studied the menu.
So Many Choices
I decided on the Margarita Chicken Wrap, which was grilled marinated chicken breast layered with roasted black bean and corn salsa, bell peppers, red onions, cilantro, queso fresco, and chipotle ranch, wrapped in a flour tortilla. As if this giant wrap wasn’t enough, it came with two choices of sides including: Refried Beans, Black Beans, Mexican rice, Carrot Salad, Rajas Poblanos, Poblanos Rice, Ejotes con Huevos, Papas con Chorizo, Cactus Salad, or Signature Teguila Veggies. If you are not fluent in Spanish, you will have to check out the menu to fully understand that last sentence. The wrap also came with a choice garnishes, including sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo.
After we ordered the server brought out complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip. The food came out maybe 15 minutes after we ordered and it looked better than what had been described in the menu. Besides the wrap, I had the cactus salad (which I am still weary that it was ACTUALLY cactus) and Tequila Veggies. Everything was prepared fresh and the dip that accompanied the wrap, the Chipotle Ranch complimented the marinated chicken and vegetables very nicely.
This huge, flavorful Mexican meal came in at only $8.99 (with free chips and dip). I really enjoyed not only the food at Sangria’s, but the overall environment of the place. It had a warm ‘home’ feeling with Mexican flare and the food made this place climb on the list of great Mexican places to eat here in the Fox Valley.
