Schreiner’s Diner [Vegetable Omelet]
Having missed the THRIVE lunch at Schreiner’s Home Style Diner a few months back, we decided to try it out for breakfast yesterday morning, since we were just down the road. The diner is located at 2437 S. Oneida Street on the south side of Appleton, just north of highway 441. We thought about going to Mary’s Restaurant, but we figured we would try something new, even though Mary’s is consistently good.
Talented Chef in A Neat Hat
The diner was filled when we walked in at around 8:30. There were maybe a dozen tables and a coffee bar in the center of the restaurant. The kitchen was also pretty much open and it was neat to watch the chef (who was wearing a fun 1950′s chef’s hat) scoop up eggs and plate them while doing 3 other things. He must have spent some time in the kitchen throughout the years. We found one of two open tables and took our seats as the waitress asked us if we wanted coffee or something else to drink.
Veggies and Eggs
The menu was a typical diner menu, featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner items and everything was very reasonably priced. I decided on the vegetable omelet with wheat toast. We had a guest join us for breakfast, which was a nice change of pace. Our food came out maybe 15 minutes after we ordered, and as you can see, it was not a gigantic omelet like some places. It was just the right size. The vegetables (onion, tomato, mushroom and green pepper) were fresh and extra salt wasn’t added to the omelet, which was nice. It was a good, filling, fresh breakfast and for $6, I would go back to try other items on the menu.
