Darboy Club [AYCE Chicken Dinner]

DBBG

When I say I live in Darboy, the first question is usually, “Oh, have you been to the famous Darboy Club?” . My answer up until yesterday has been a sad no. I live a mile from the place and drive by it multiple times a day, but for some reason it never registers with me to actually eat there. Well now I can say I have experienced the club in all its glory on a Wednesday night, which just happened to be all you can eat chicken for $8.50. I feel as if I have been a reborn Darboyian for I have now experienced the one and only Darboy Club.

Speaking of Darboy Club, the one and only gas station in Darboy has a small deli and it often features a sandwich called ‘The Other Darboy Club’. Clever people. This ‘famous’ place is almost always busy. It is like the entire town of Kimberly, Darboy and Kaukauna flock here. Between their buffets, chicken specials, wedding and other parties, it is hard to see an empty spot in the parking lot from time to time. Luckily, we went on a somewhat slow night.

All You Can Eat Chicken for $8.50

Anyways, walking into the famous food hot spot, the first thing I noticed was a large bar area, which a few people were sitting around. The bartender pointed towards the dinning room and went in, finding a few dozen empty tables and a few filled with families. The waitress came over and asked if I would be having the chicken special. I asked for a menu to see what else they had to offer, but ultimately decided on the chicken. Why? It was $8.50 and have you ever seen a post on Food in the Fox that features broasted chicken? Nope.

About 30 seconds after ordering, the heaping plate of food arrived at the table. It included three pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and stuffing. If that wasn’t enough, the waitress asked if we would like complimentary sides of cranberries, cole slaw and buns. Sure, why not go all out. Thanksgiving minus the turkey in June? I’m in. The verdict? The chicken was hot, crispy and tender and tasted like it just came out of the broaster. The mashed potatoes, gravy, buns, and stuffing were average. Nothing to write home about, but good. The coleslaw was pretty dang good. It tasted homemade and was a bit sweeter than other cole slaws I have had. And, to top it off, after I still had food on my plate, the waitress came to ask if I wanted more.  AYCE, I forgot. I was stuffed to the brim. If you are looking for a good deal and a dash of Darboyian charm, go check out Darboy Club.
