Third Street Diner [Hot Turkey]
Food in the Fox managed to finally order an egg-free breakfast at Third Street Diner on the corner of 114 and 47 in Menasha. This momentous occasion happened earlier in the week and involved a rather homey looking assemblage of peas, sliced turkey, white bread, and potato salad.
Woohoo! A Breakfast Without Eggs
As it turns out, Third Street Diner has a collection of “anytime specials” that are served throughout the day. The little diner also has other specials posted here and there throughout including one that featured 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 slices of bacon or sausage. As tempted as I was by the 2/2/2 special, I decided to break free from the suffocating dominance of eggs in my life. Okay, that may have been a little dramatic, but you don’t see what happens in the car as Food in the Fox pulls up to breakfast destinations.
Hot Turkey, Peas, Potato Salad
The special I went with was the Hot Turkey. If I had to choose 5 favorite foods, turkey would be on the list perhaps at the #1 or #2 spot, which is a little weird since I don’t eat turkey nearly as much as I eat chicken. Just typing that makes me want to stop writing this post and go to get a whole turkey, thaw it out, and toss it in the smoker today. Maybe later. Anyway, the hot turkey comes in deli form perched atop a thick slice of white bread. Open faced turkey sandwiches usually come slathered in gravy, but I specifically asked for the gravy to be left off. Sides included a bowl of peas (the vegetable of the day) and potato salad, which was one of several hot and cold potato choices available.
Service was good, the price was decent, and the food was very plain but not at all bad. The potato salad might have been the weakest link. While it had a little bit of zip to it, it tasted pretty much like diced potatoes mixed with mayo and a bit of vinegar (which is essentially what it was).
