Scuba’s Pourhouse [Chicken Caesar Salad]
I will be the first to admit, Scuba’s Pourhouse is not the first place that comes to mind when I think of going somewhere for lunch in Appleton. None the less, this was the home of THRIVE lunch on Monday and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I have been here before for drinks (part of the Stone Cellar Stamp Book Tour) but not for food. The place is more bar than restaurant, so that is probably why I was surprised at the menu choices and the decent quality of the food.
Good Food Selection (For A Bar)
The place opens at 11:00 AM and is right off of Wisconsin Avenue (close to Mark’s Eastside). It is not much to look at from the outside, but inside is quite nice. There is a small bar and quite a few high top tables with a few booths that had their own private TV’s. They had the place decked out pretty good for Halloween, with spider webs covering almost the entire ceiling. Anyways, I was expecting burgers and pizzas on the menu, but was happy to see that they had a good selection of food other than typical ‘bar food’. By this I mean not every bar/restaurant has a grilled portobella sandwich (portabella, sautéed red onions, mozzerella cheese, banana peppers, and Italian dressing) or a turkey supreme sandwich (turkey, gouda cheese, bacon, lettuce, fresh avocado and a side of mayo).
Quick. Friendly. Reasonable.
Lunch for me consisted of a boring chicken caesar salad. It was nothing to write home about, but that being said, it did come out of the kitchen relatively quick. It came with a gallon of caesar dressing and plenty of fresh Parmesan cheese. It was a normal sized salad and rang in at $8. The waitress was very friendly and was not alarmed in the slightest when we mentioned that 10-20 people were going to be coming in for lunch. Overall? I would go back, but probably for a few cocktails rather than lunch or dinner.
