Hollander’s [Deep Fried Chicken Sandwich]
Before Food In The Fox came to be, Hollander’s in Little Chute was a common lunch destination. But, it has been a while since we have been back, so that was where we decided to head for lunch yesterday. This restaurant/bar (more bar) is located off of highway 96 in Little Chute, just down the road from what one would consider ‘downtown’ Little Chute.
The place is huge. It has a large bar, which is in the middle of tables scattered throughout the entire place. There are plenty of TV’s and gambling machines (if you are feeling lucky). The table tents also mentioned that they have Cribbage and Trivia game nights, which is kind of cool because a lot of local places don’t provide these type of things. The crowd was an older crowd, most of whom were drinking at 11:30 AM. I guess that is one of the perks of being retired.
Deep Fried Chicken, Fries, and Cole Slaw
The menu is filled with typical bar type food ranging from pizza to appetizers to a wide array of wraps and salads. They also had daily sandwich specials on the table tent. One of them being a deep fried chicken sandwich with french fires and cole slaw. This didn’t sound incredibly healthy, but the price was right. It was $5 for the large basket of food. Why not? The holidays are here and I don’t plan on stepping on my scale until well into next year.
Busy Place – Okay Service
Being that the place was packed, the service was not as good as it has been in the past. There seem to be two waitresses tending to a full dining room of customers and they were hustling around from table to table and back in forth from the kitchen. It didn’t take long for the food and as you can see below, it was nothing overly special. It was a pile of grease with some salt. Oh, and it tasted pretty good. It was a nice change up from the typical grilled chicken salad. It was filling and priced right, but not too many notches above McDonald’s. I think it tasted so good because it has been a while since I have a sandwich like this.
Bottom line: Cheap, average, bar food with okay service.
