The Cozzy Corner [Spicy BBQ Chicken]

Since my co-conspirator had pretty much the same thing I did at Monday’s THRIVE Lunch, I’m just going to slap up a series of photos that give you just a taste of what The Cozzy Corner has going on. Also, I love the name “Cozzy Hellsauce.” It was pretty spicy for a BBQ sauce.

The Cozzy Corner [Spicy BBQ Chicken]

cozy2

The Cozzy Corner has been on the list for a while now and Food in the Fox finally had the chance to try out the southern style restaurant in downtown Appleton on Monday for THRIVE Lunch. There are not many (if any) other southern style restaurants in Appleton, so it was a real treat to try something a bit different. The place is located at 111 North Walnut Street just a bit north of College Avenue behind Acoca Coffee.

Southern Goodness

The menu was not extensive, but filled with all kinds of items that are not usually on the menu in the Fox Valley. You can choose one or two meats and two side dishes. The meat choices included BBQ ribs, BBQ Hot Wings, Spicy BBQ Chicken, Smoked Sausage, Pulled Pork, Fried Chicken and Fish. The side dishes were lime beans, corn, cole slaw, red rice and beans, candied yams, mac & cheese, collard greens and fried okra. The meal also comes with a side of cornbread. The 1 meat combo is $8.99 and the 2 meat combo is $10.99. They also have chicken and waffles on the menu, something I have yet to try.

Messy, But Worth It

I decided to go with Spicy BBQ chicken with a side of corn and cole slaw. The food did take about 25 minutes to get to the table, so if you are looking for a quick in and out lunch, it may be best to call ahead to place your order. The chicken was deep-fried and covered in BBQ sauce. It was robust and was somewhat difficult to eat without looking like a complete slob in front of other people. The cole slaw was extra creamy and with a little pepper; it went really well with the spicy chicken. The corn was sweet and not overly salted. The cornbread was also warm and tasty.

Overall, a great experience. I will be back to try out other items on the menu. Also, the place has a fun southern atmosphere, with colorful paintings and artwork covering the walls. If you are looking for something just a bit off the beaten path for lunch or dinner, check it out!
